Supposedly my 2014 i-MiEV has the "Approaching Vehicle Audible System" to help alert pedestrians to the approaching electric vehicle.
I have never heard it nor has any pedestrian that I creep up on heard it.
Is this something that needs to enabled?
Could it have been disabled by my dealer?
Just curious.
Cheers, Roman

I can't hear mine either and I am guessing no one else does either as I am almost on top of them and follow them for quiet a ways before they move

Three i-MiEVs here, all making the same Hollywood "spaceship" sound when stopped or at low speeds (you need to be outside the car to properly hear it). Easy to modulate with brake application. Unfortunately, the sound is universally ignored by pedestrians. External speaker, with wiring brought in under the dashboard. We've had discussions on this topic in the past in a number of threads.

Here's a sound clip:

By the way, you could turn the car on (but not READY), set the parking brake, and put the car in neutral. This will activate the sound without putting power to the wheels, even if accidentally put into gear. But, this is at your own risk.

My 2012 ex-lease car never made the sound--when i crawled under there the speaker was missing.

But i have heard the slight buzzing or hum such as in the video coming from the motor or inverter or cooling pump.

Interesting. Previous owner didn't like the noise?

For reference, I posted a tech ref. article with clips of the various sounds produced. It can be found here.
