I had a similar unit in an EV, and it was OK to hand to my son for him to keep his hands warm, that was about it. If it pulls significant power, you'll be stressing your DC-DC converter and losing efficiency through that conversion, so I don't know how it would be better than just keeping the iMiev heater on a lower setting.
 
Stick a 120 volt, 12 amp ceramic heater plugged in with an extension cord in the car on a cold morning and see what you think. That's a 1500 watt unit and it puts out more than 6 times as much heat as the little 12 volt unit can. That will give you some idea of what 235 watts of heat would feel like . . . . or at least it would let you know what 6 of them running at once could do
