I intend to buy a iMiEV from the year 2011, which has only driven 1000km.
But the warranty is expiring 2016, and I've read about some cars have had
problems with the battery, and therefore the entire battery box replaced on warranty.
Do you have to buy a new battery, price is astronomical.
Therefore, I would like to replace a faulty cell myself.

I think we will be able to buy LEV50 batteries soon. I have a 2011 i-MiEV. There is someone in this forum that buyed an i-MiEV that suffered a serious accident and maybe he could sell us one of the cells of the crashed i. But there will be more of this batteries with time, for sure.

If a cell is dead, I can mix LEV50 battery with plain LiFePo4 battery?

No. LEV50 is Li-ion, can not mix in the same pack with LiFePO4 (different voltages), at least without severe modification of the BMS. Bad idea.

Perhaps, as a last (very last) resort, I'll try to join 18650 Li-ion cells, parallel enough to get 50Ah (Tesla style). Example, 16 units of 3100 mAh totalizes 49,6 Ah.

Or where can I buy LEV50 batteries?

Call siai47!

Yeah. Wrecked i-MiEV's may be our only source of LEV50's for a while. I wonder what Mitsubishi does with battery packs replaced under warranty? I'd love to have their MiEV Home system.

Call siai47!
Yeah. He has two and a half i-MiEV's. I'm sure there's a spare part somewhere.
