Over 1,000 miles today. Saved myself approx. 55 gallons of fuel so far. ;)

Odometer now reads 5272 after two weeks on light duty while I was out of town and only my wife used the i. Good news is, she finally prefers the i to her 1992 Civic! She got comfy with the i, and after a week without driving the Civic, today she remarked that the Civic was feeling rather gutless compared to the i. :eek:
 
Total of 7,500 miles in just under six months. On track for 15,000 miles in a year using only the charger in my garage (since there are virtually no chargers in my area).

Yesterday was our 11 month 'anniversary', and i hit 13,600 miles. All is well, only regrets are 'playing fair' by not using the i on trips which would cause spousal i-nconvenience... Bet we coulda hit 16k in year one with a little more dedication. ;)
 
sandage, nice savings. Here are my numbers ....

In 6 months we've driven roughly 4,500 miles.

In our 30mpg Ford Focus, that's 150 gallons of gasoline @ roughly $3.50/gal = $525
In our 4mpkwh iMiev, that's 1125 kwh @ $0.13/khw = $146.25

So, I'm saving $750/year in direct fuel costs. Although I don't think I'll recoup the total extra costs over an estimated 10 year lifespan of the batteries, it might be close. I figure out of pocket I really only paid $5k more (I will pay $19k, whereas a similar gas car would cost me only $14k), and then the 240v charger, which at $800 wasn't bad, and probably I could have done without it or with just the EVSE upgrade. After 10 years I could have a $2500 accrual ($7,500 savings - $5,000 extra cost up front), more if the price of gasoline goes up, which is a good chunk of a new battery pack even after paying for the optional charger. Plus, there is value for the smooth driving, quiet operation, and no emissions.

It's not easy being an early adopter (and I'm not normally in that crowd), but having taken the plunge with PV, geothermal HVAC, and most recently electric vehicles - it's exhilirating. I hope Mitsubishi will hang in there with the iMiev.

We are at about 4500 KM since the end of Aug. In my case our other car is an SUV and the real city is about consumption 12 L/100 KM. Since most of our driving is city driving that's the number I use for the car. In the winter it's even worst about 13-14 L/100KM but 12 is a good all around figure to use as baseline.

So when I look at my dollar saving I compare the iMiev to the SUV which in one sense is not a fair comparison because they are such different cars. However in my case I would drive what I own which is either the Imiev or the SUV. So I reflect them one against the other. I think I'm at about $650 in gas saving. I will save about $2500.00 this year in gas alone using the iMiev as a first car and the SUV as a second one.

Very interesting- I bought my iMiEV 6/29, so we're just about at the same time elapsed!

Here are my stats for the same 5 months from 100 miles (et une frontiere internationale) away:

Traveled: 3804 miles (6135km)

at 275 Wh/mile (conservative number, better than 300Wh/mile posted by Mitsu but worse than JoeS's 225), that's 1046kWh. At $0.15/kwh, that's $157.

My VW Jetta TDI would have sipped (at 38mpg) about 100 gallons of diesel fuel at today's price of $4.159 for a cost of $416.

Net savings $259

But wait... the photovoltaics have produced more than 1046kWh in the past five months, so that means if it look at it the right way, the cost was... ZERO!

At this rate, I would drive about 9100 miles in a year and avoid about 240 gallons of diesel. The PV can't quite make enough electricity to cover 9100 miles, but will be close.

I'm guessing my mileage will decline a little over the winter since I won't drive the i if it's too snowy (no snow tires) or too frigid (below -10F... don't want to risk having to tow the car home, and I don't drive as much in the winter anyway.
