    Reactions from bystanders

I have a rather large bumper sticker with the word "ohm" on the back of the car, and a 3x5 card in the rear side quarter window that explains that this is an electric car with some yada yada details. Drove the dogs to Kit Carson Park for a walk today. On returning to the car, our way was...

Owners more then 100 miles from there dealer

We are about 120 miles from the dealer through some mountainous terrain. We just recently had the car trailered down to the dealer for the first annual service, along with doing the two recalls on the car. Service cost us nothing under warranty, but the round trip shipping was $500. The dealer...

Are Journalists Trying to Kill the Electric Car?

USA Today, admittedly not the world's best newspaper, runs a lot of automotive news both in print and on their web version. One of their auto journalists, Chris Woodyard, consistently bad-mouths EVs as having SO many shortcomings as to be unmarketable. He's never met an EV with any redeeming...

    Identify this EV? SOLVED!

That is a CitiCar ... they were sold in the US from the mid to late 1970s. Top speed was around 30 mph. I remember a dealer in Lansing, Michigan had them for sale.

    Winter Driving

It's sure been cold in Taos ... down to -21F at our house the other night. The car is stored in a garage heated to +50F where it's charged. We have Dunlop Graspics on the car, so the "normal" range for us is down from the low 90s to around 80 on a charge. We haven't noticed this lessen during...

    Tis the season: snow tires!

I've had the Dunlop Graspics on the car for a couple weeks now ... I guess I jumped the gun a bit since we haven't had more than a couple of flurries. I have noticed the tires have a softer feel, even running them at 43 psi, and they have taken around 10% off my range. Not bad for a grippy snow...

    Tis the season: snow tires!

My local Tire Factory shop got me a set of four Dunlop Graspic DS-3s for the car and are holding them for me, pending some snow here. I'll just swap them onto the factory alloy wheels. I'll be sure to report back on how they work out. Buying an extra set of factory alloys isn't an option for us...

    Tis the season: snow tires!

I think keeping the original Dunlops on here in the winter wouldn't be a good idea. While it often gets warm enough during the day to melt the snow on the roads, the wet roads then freeze as sunset approaches. The local road maintenance is plowing and sanding, no salting. My concerns with the...

    Tis the season: snow tires!

It was +26F here this morning, and I'm thinking snow isn't far behind. Just wondering if anyone's bought snow tires yet? My local tire shop is recommending Dunlop Graspic DS-3 tires for the i ... they're not the most aggressive snow tire out there, but the shop says they've had happy customers...

Mitsubishi i Review in Local Newspaper

The EV+ was a great car. They do show one of them being shredded in "Who Killed The Electric Car" ... it was a green one, could have been mine! I put close to 50,000 miles on the car during my five year lease, all in the SF Bay Area. Furthest single drive was 103 miles. The car routinely got...

Mitsubishi i Review in Local Newspaper

Back to the OP for just a second: it never ceases to amaze me what good press Honda can conjure up over what really amounts to "vaporware." Their experiment in building 1100 Fit EVs over three years is nothing more than a Honda EV+ redux. They built 300+ of those for California leasing starting...

    Cell Monitoring Unit "recall"

I too got a very friendly email from the dealer service department reminding me my first service was at three months and they did in fact offer a free oil change as an incentive to make an appointment. I wrote a very nice email back to the service person to remind them that I had an electric...

    Cell Monitoring Unit "recall"

Got the notice yesterday from Mitsubishi that our car is subject to a "customer satisfaction campaign" (note: it's not a recall in the NHTSA sense) for the Cell Monitoring Unit software update. Since we live well beyond driving range to our Mitsubishi dealer, I called Mitsubishi to find out 1)...

Our iMiEV Nicknames and What Has the iMiEV Been Called

Our dog understands the names of our vehicles ... as in, "Let's go for a ride in Car!" and he runs to the appropriate vehicle. Our Ford Escape Hybrid is named "Dirby(h)" ... as in hybrid spelled backward. So "Go for ride in the Dirby" results in dog running to the Ford. For lack of a better...

    solar on the car roof

Riffing on JoeS' suggestion above for a trailer: why not trailer mount a gasoline or diesel generator outputting DC, hack the CHAdeMO port, and run it as a "hybrid"? With a big enough generator, you could run all day long. Range problem solved. Or you could just buy a Volt.

    solar on the car roof

Did you calculate the extra energy needed to transport the extra weight around? And what drag you'd add to the vehicle by putting a solar panel on the roof?

MIEV and Use of Air Conditioner

Bill ... congrats on your purchase! You can pre-heat or pre-cool the i while it's still on the charger. On hot days here in Taos (we had a spate in the mid 90s last month), I tried pre-cooling for 20 minutes or so prior to departure. I was able to keep the car quite comfortable without using...

Practical solutions for extending cold weather range

I have one of those small propane bottle heaters exactly like the one in your link. It puts out WAY too much heat for the interior cabin of an i, and it's difficult to modulate the heat. Also burning propane gives off CO2 and moisture, so interior climate could be a problem. I would seriously...

    Reactions from bystanders

Actually had someone today ask me what kind of gas mileage we got with that "little thing". I took the advice I saw here on the forum and replied .... "excellent! We've never put a drop of gas in it." The guy replied ... "well that's the smallest diesel I've ever seen."

Anyone have this as their ONLY car?

Congrats, Oakville ... and thumbs up from here for the Eaton Level 2 EVSE. We bought one direct from Eaton with their excellent technical support (at least in the US), and had a local electrician install it in less than an hour.
