Two Months and Two Thousand Miles

*ahem* Three months and... 4,011 miles! Not really trying to play a game of one-up-manship, though. I only want to second Joe's post: We've been using this as our primary vehicle (clearly rather a lot!) and we are just in love with it. It is a perfect daily duty car, getting our kids to school...

Two Charging rates of the Eaton Charger

watts / volts = amps So, 3.6kW / 240v = 15A. Mind you, I'm pretty sure none of us have seen the car pull quite that much. It seems to pull about 3.1kW max, so it draws 3.1kW / 240V = 13A. In any event, no point in getting more than a 16A EVSE for charging the i.

Two Charging rates of the Eaton Charger

Remember that the i will pull at most 13A So installing a 40A circuit, or a 30A EVSE is overkill. The "Advanced Cord Management" is... wait for it... a HOOK and a null-receptacle for the plug! You can see it on the Eaton web site. Sheesh! How much do they want for the unit and it's "advanced...

    A Month of Driving Electric

I've updated the blog post. Turns out with ChargePoint, which is all our not-at-home charging, you can get a report of your charging kWh!

    A Month of Driving Electric

tl;dr - We drove 1,278 miles in our i-MiEV in February, and saved $90.99 over what we would have spent on fuel. Details on my blog: A Month of Driving Electric

    sign and pay before delivery?

That dealer's actions sound highly suspicious. You should call Mitsubishi corporate and discuss it with them.

CUSTOMIZATION FUNCTIONS M.U.T.-III ETACS Horn, Buzzer...

That's wonderful stuff - now do we know how to get at those settings? Can one get an ETACS control unit? Is a M.U.T.-III something only a dealer has?

    San Francisco BayMiEVers

Sounds lovely - we're interested - but with two small kids I can never be sure of when will work!

    brand new I MIEV

we could meet and all caravan to someplace like Hobee's for lunch on a weekend. It would be fun to line 'em all up in the parking lot! (and, well, obviously I like the idea of meeting in Mtn. View!)

New Mitsubishi Approved Level 2 EVSE

Two thoughts: 1) Pretty much any level 2 charger will work with the i. There is no real "approval" needed. Here are four you can just order from Home Depot. 2) The hard part of the install is getting a dedicated 240v circuit to where you want the EVSE, but any licensed electrician can do this...

    Remote control issues

We have a Legrand L2 EVSE and use it with the remote all the time. We don't see the issue you are having. Since you don't see it with that very remove and the 110 EVSE, one would have to conclude it was the Wattstation.

Survey: PayPal deposit of $299 for the car, refund.

I got a call from Mitsubishi asking me some follow up questions about my purchase (as well as many questions about the Geek Squad / Mr. Electric experience.) At the end, I asked about the refund, and the representative said yes, I should apply for it on the site. Back at the site, there is a...

    Front License Plates

Our dealer told us to come back when we got our plates and they'd install the front plate. We did it ourselves, here's how: 1) There are two small dimples in the front bumper. We checked, and these align with the holes on the plate. 2) The screws and rubber inserts were in the glove box. These...

i'er iChart: The iMiev Range Chart. ANY VOLUNTEERS?

I'd be happy to apply my graphic design skills to create such a chart (or perhaps one Tufte could like a little more). But, where does the data come from? Reported driving runs? Actually energy usage calcs? Something interpolated in between? Get me the data -- I'll draw you the chart.

Survey: PayPal deposit of $299 for the car, refund.

No! Asked dealer about it at time of purchase, and also told I'd need to apply for the refund on line. On-line I can't find a place to apply for it. Tried calling the customer number but only active during biz. hours and I haven't gotten around to it during the day yet.

    EVSE info

Our Legrande L2 ESVE is lit up like a Chrismas tree when not in use - drives me nuts that a "green" solution for my driving should use any energy at all when not in use!

    Better charging controls

Indeed, I can confirm this, now that we've been using our Level 2 EVSE for about a week. The remote does remember the time of day for start (and optionally stop), even though the user interface is in terms of hours of delay. For example: On Monday, you come home at 5:15pm, plug in, and set the...

proud new owner of an 'i'

Alas, no, the i doesn't have cruise control. Which seems somewhat bizarre to me... Well, we hacked cruise control on to our Prius back in 2001.... As for charging, JoeS, are you going to switch to PG&E's E9a or E9b rate plans? We've done so, which means we now try to charge only after midnight...

    how does the imiev drive?

We've been driving ours for a few weeks now. My husband does about 60 miles a day in it, taking the kids to/from school and errands. He says it feels peppy and responsive, even in ECO mode, which he uses all the time, even on the freeways. He says he much prefers it to our aging 10+ year old...
