Australian and New Zealand based i-Miev Owners.

By the way carnut1100, sorry to hear of the accident, hope everyone walked away. How did the iMiev perform? I drive mine predominantly on motorways in rush hour so it's always at the back of my mind given the size (or lack thereof) of the car.

Regarding imports: Take a look at http://www.autotrader.co.uk Second hand vehicles in general in the UK suffer massive depreciation, electrics even more so, be careful with Leaf and Fluence pricing however as some models are priced without the battery ownership (its a lease via Nissan/Renault)...

Australian and New Zealand based i-Miev Owners.

I'm Australia-based. Bought an electric blue iMiev mid 2013 and have put 22,000kms on it. It has all but replaced our ICE car which is now used for lengthy trips only or if wifey and I are heading in separate directions. Our kids and their friends at school love the novelty of our "Teapot"...

Do you feel ICE drivers bully the iMiev ?

I had an unpleasant experience just this morning. Here in Oz we don't get too many large pickups, just stadard car sized 'utes' and HiLuxes. I've noticed recently though that there are an increasing number of Ford F250's. Unfortunately the size of those appears to bear an inverse relation to...

    MiEV-CAN

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/08/16/top_gun_screen_for_cars/ Came across this while browsing. Could be a great display for a customised iMiev data-dash.

I replaced my i-MiEV with this

It's not a 2 door is it? The rear door handle looks like it is recessed in the rear side window surround. I'm not a fan of the Spark petrol but as an iMiev replacement it fits the bill.

iMiEV rated second cheapest car to maintain

Not sure about the land of the free but down under we receive fixed price servicing (in exchange for our 5 yr warranty and roadside assist, else it's 12 months). Over the 5 years it works out to around AU$1800. Add in a few tyres (especially mine!) and you're nearly there.

    Wheels, Rims, and Tires

While searching UK sites for possible items that could be shipped to Oz I found a brand being sold for just £35.20 (AU$63.52/US$59.72). The tyre is the Nankang AS1, can't speak as to the quality but could be worth me importing a set if I can do so cheaply enough.

    Wheels, Rims, and Tires

I agree something's up. I'm suspicious of the pressures being low, considering the relatively even wear but I have had the alignment checked as well. Owing to the illegality of the tyre and the despair of my wife if I were to keep the car off the road even for a day I have stumped up AU$400 to...

    Wheels, Rims, and Tires

Just had my first service - 12 month/15,000kms (c.9,320 miles) only to find the front tyres are worn. FL is 1.5mm (legal limt here in QLD) FR is 1mm (below legal). As ours is one of the smallest markets for these vehicles the Dunlop replacements are the only official option on the market at...

    BMW i3 test drive

RE: brake lights on regen - I seem to recall reading about an international standard that dictates any vehicle decelerating at more than 0.7m per second must display its brake lights. I doubt BMW neglected this, our iMievs regen is not strong enough to require this. As an aside, a braking...

    Outlander PHEV thread

Australian economy tests use ADR 81/02 (Australian Design Rules) for the combined cycle that gave the 1.9l/km figure. Agreed that 4.4l/100km is impressive for such a large vehicle. I think more than ever the phrase "your mileage may vary" will be especially true for plug-ins. I still prefer...

    Outlander PHEV thread

I took a test drive in an Outlander PHEV a week ago. Good build quality, smooth tarmac ride but you could feel the extra weight and sharp edges showed the limitations in the suspension, still obviously a world away from our iMiev though. I found that the central screen looked great and gave good...

    Release of Kia Soul EV

Hmm. Not a bad idea re: snail mail. As for being jealous of the Euro models, I hear you. The Aussie and Yank markets seem similar in their somewhat dull conservatism compared to the funky designs and niche models available to Europe and Japan, seemingly because of a fascination with having...

Thanks for the clarification Don, I'll go back to trusting Autocar's reviews again ;)

    Release of Kia Soul EV

Note that Kia are hedging their bets on 'fuel mix'. Their badging includes Eco/Electric, Eco/Hybrid and Eco/Fuel Cell so expect some quite compelling products in the future. Also Hyundai/Kia are the same company so expect them to continue sharing drivetrains and models to gain volume and...

    Release of Kia Soul EV

Now the launch if the BMW i3 is out of the way and we can see it is limited in its appeal by offering only 4 seats, a limitation I'm happy with in my iMiev owing to its far more reasonable price. Kia has now announced its Soul EV which, in ICE form, seats 5. Theoretically at least we now have...

    THE I-MiEV STILL AMAZES

Well, it finally happened. Here in Brisbane the cost of public transport just overtook using the iMiev. My 80km commute costs AU$14.10 in bus fare and AU$4.08 in fuel to drive to the station when using the ICE (as my wife insists on driving the iMiev!) If I use the iMiev I use less than a half...
