Thanks Quixotix. I was suspecting that preconditioning with the 120V L1 EVSE would be marginal at best.
I would think it would precondition faster if the batteries are charged. From this link (which has been quoted before) http://www.greencarcongress.com/2011/10/imiev-20111010.html the battery...
Wow, this (and your transmission post) are full of great info. Some real technical details. More please, if you've got it!!
Interesting, it looks like the battery has its own CAN network for the CMUs to the BMU. Too bad there's not more detail on the cell balancing.
I agree that garaging will be necessary -- and I have them available at home and at work. The cold zone package is of course going to be a requirement up here! Trips are usually pretty short, under 20mi total/day.
However, if the charger only draws 3200 watts from a L2 EVSE, and assuming a...
I agree FiddlerJohn. I'd love to see an owner's manual. My dealer said they could mail me a copy, but is was just a printout of the warranty manual.
I'd *really* love to see a service manual too. Being able to review that would make me much more comfortable before finalizing my order.

I'm getting the impression that Mitsu is being quite conservative in their claims for the MiEV. Not a bad way to bring technology to market. The higher power levels referenced in the SAE paper could be for the heater or A/C in isolation, but the lower numbers might apply to the integrated system...
Thanks for the link. Now that looks like fun! I find a little power oversteer very helpful in the snow.
It appears the traction control can be turned fully off. Hopefully this is the case for the North American models. Has anyone tried to duplicate this with a NA MiEV?
Great pics, it is helpful to see what's under the covers.
Here's a link to a SAE paper describing the i-MiEV HVAC system:

From the pics and dates in the paper, it looks like they're describing the JDM version, not the NA one.
