I did a write-up on the mileage for our first 350 miles on my blog at http://cheerfulcurmudgeon.com/2013/11/03/mitsubishi-i-miev-mileage/

I will be installing a Clipper Creek L2 charger this week and my 120V Kill-A-Watt meter won't work with it. Is there an inexpensive equivalent for 240V devices? I'm geek enough to like measuring stuff but cheap enough that I'm unwilling to pay much for the meter.

I use something very similar to this:

http://www.amazon.com/120-240V-kWh-...8&qid=1386764285&sr=8-8&keywords=ekm+metering

I have a dedicated outlet for my EVSE Upgraded cord, which I have set up to be switchable between 120 volt (Level 1) and 240 volt (Level 2), and this meter will read current for both voltages. You do need to have two hots go through the meter, and the neutral and ground go around the meter. Since you're doing level 2, you should be fine. I can send you a picture if you'd like.

azemon, I had missed your request - here's how I did it:

Although the eBay number for the meter I bought no longer exists, do an eBay search for something like "230V 100A LCD DIN-rail Type Kilowatt Hour kWh Single Phase Meter". The one I chose was spec'd for both 50Hz and 60Hz

It's simply a cumulative meter and retains its reading when disconnected. About $25 IIRC. I used it continuously for the 8000 miles that I kept meticulous energy-consumption numbers on my iMiEV.

Being a cheapskate and professional recycler, I splurged on $15.50 glass dome utility meter from http://www.hialeahmeter.com/siphwame.html
Looks real nice hanging on the wall, there's no debating what the EV charging usage has been, and I can tell the kids all about how things used to be. I mounted mine with a round socket on an old plastic cutting board so that it's also portable, with a 14-50 plug and both the 14-50 outlet and a L14-30 outlet. Works fine vertical or horizontal, with an old-school faint creaking sound from the mechanism to confirm that the juice is flowing... It's also bidirectional, for playing with solar or measuring energy production from a genset.

I ended up getting a used TED 5000 via private message from another forum member. It has given me the data that I want so I now know that my first 1000 miles cost me just under $41. :D

I love the recycled meters, though. Had I known that those were available, I probably would have bought one!

Cheers,
