A Month of Driving Electric

Sun Mar 04, 2012 1:08 am

tl;dr - We drove 1,278 miles in our i-MiEV in February, and saved $90.99 over what we would have spent on fuel.

MtnViewMark - thank you for posting your data. We intuitively recognize that cost/mile of our iMiEVs is significantly lower than even the most economical hybrid (and that goes for the Volt as well) - especially with our gasoline prices presently hovering around $4.50/gallon. I find that my iMiEV draws 3.06kW at 240v - thus, if you could simply measure the exact amount of time you charge off-site, you should be able to get a good handle on your total consumption and cost/savings. I manually try to keep track of both my charging and discharging, but often I simply forget to record... :(

I've updated the blog post. Turns out with ChargePoint, which is all our not-at-home charging, you can get a report of your charging kWh!
