As for my SIM card, I switched to Ting, which has pretty reasonable rates (no traditional plans, just tiered rates for separate items such as data and messages). Plus, because I switched from PTel, I got a $75 credit on my account, which should last for 3-4 months.
With this setup there is also a safety factor built into the OpenEVSE I am using since it it set to only charge between the hours of 00:05 through 07:30. So I don't have to worry about the Intermatic CA3750 coming back on unexpectedly and charging the car more. If I want to charge during the day I just push the OpenEVSE button to charge now and the Python program will still shut it off at 80%.
Yes, I switched to Ting as well. However I did file a complaint against PTEL with the FTC and the state attorney generals office since I still had air time with PTEL which could not be used and will not be refunded. I won't do any good but at least it felt good to complain about it.
