Hello,

several weeks ago when I parked my -miev I noticed that when gear shifter was in the park position, reverse-view camera turned on and in the instrument cluster showed R instead of P.
Then a few days later after I turned off the car, I was not able to start it again. Later I find out that if you do not push harder the shifter into P, you could not start the car as it is not in the P mode.
Could it be some problem with gear contacts? And where to find them. I disassembled the gear shifter column but there are no contacts. It has some shaft but it does not go to the engine bay.

Here's a link with some info on the gear position sensor--the cable likely just needs some lubrication and possibly sensor adjustment. You can search this site to find other links of folks who solved this same problem.

picture here of the sensor located on the left side of the gearbox; there are actually 2 sensors.

Thank you kiev. I hope tomorrow I will have time to go under the car and inspect the sensor.

I disassembled position switch but it looks ok, no cracks, some wear but nothing bad.
But I discovered another interesting thing. It looks like that gear shifting rod does not push back the lever to Parking position. It pushes it only to the Rear gear position. In some cases I need pull lever by hand to get it to the Parking position.
Is it any possibility to exchange length of the arm (in photo marked with red arrow)? I need approximately 3-5 mm to elongate it.

I almost disassembled all interior but did not find any possibilities of regulation of the length of the arm. It looks like such an option was not designed.
After spending some time on the internet, I found an old discussion about a similar case. May be it would be useful to someone:

I made the adjustments of shift position switch like was written in the discussion and service manual. Now it is better but not as it should be. I can put in Parking and Reverse but it is not as smooth as it should be.

So my decision is to put new shift position switch. Part no is 23048?

Did your cable need lube or was it damaged?

I did not found any damages on the cable. It looks like it runs smoothly. Maybe there was some displacement of the sensor. Now without cable lubrication car works really well. But I am planning to lubricate the cable.
