? The selector lever device prevents moving out of P position unless the key switch is turned to a position other than LOCK (OFF) and the brake pedal is depressed. ?

FiddlerJohn, thanks for this. Looks like they refer to the park locking device as a "sprag", which my dictionary calls "a stout stick or bar inserted between the spokes of a wheel to check its motion."
