2016 i-Miev model options

It looks like there will be only one model for 2016, the ES--no more SE (too confusing using the same letters anyway), priced starting at about $23k But it comes standard with Level 3 charging (the dcqc chademo connector in left side port). And 15" alloy wheels are standard (no more steel wheel...

Re: Noisy coils

When current flows thru a coil of wire, an inductor, or a motor winding, etc. it creates a magnetic field around the wire and thru the center of the coil. Each coil, loop or turn in the winding has it's own magnetic field, and when the current changes direction the magnetic field reverses also. Thes...

Re: New owner from Chicago, IL of a 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV S

Occasionally i will hear that also. i think it is a normal electronic sound of the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) circuit used in a 3-phase inverter. Nothing to be worried about, you just have young ears with no hearing loss yet, the noise will go away as you get older.

Re: Battery only charging halfway

... I'd like to believe that it is a fault with the management board, but the voltage difference grows as SoC declines, which indicates some capacity loss in the cell. It also seems that the other cells have some damage, as they aren't as in balance as they used to be. They're still very close, but...

Re: Battery only charging halfway

That's some excellent data you have collected. i haven't parsed it yet to try to determine if the car is just using the lowest cell voltage or the pack average as it's source for the fuel gauge indicator, but i thought that might be interesting also. The comparison graph of cell 10 with the rest of ...

Re: 1 bar blinking, no turtle, safe to drive for 10 miles ?

hey tigger, i just use 4 miles for each bar as my range estimator and always try to stay above 2 bars except for doing the calibration charge procedure. +1 on the advice. If you want to do fewer charges and not top it off all the time, just fill it up to 15 bars on sunday and drive until its down to...

Re: Trailer Hitch Installation

Count me in for the 1/3-load (600 lbs?) rated aluminum version--i'll even commit to buy 3 of them and give them to my local miev-gang members if necessary.

Is that the electric motor unit warning light? Shaped like a car with an exclamation mark?

Re: Gearbox problems.

It looks like just a 2-pass gearbox with differential on the output. Typically you can get a maximum of about a 4:1 ratio in one gear pass--it's difficult to get much more than that. So for example take a 2:1 gear plus another pass at 3.5:1 and you end up with 7:1, because the gear ratios multiply e...
