Re: exclamation point inside of car error light?

Howdy fresno, Was the error code P1A15? If the result of Step 7 (reading the correct capacitor voltage) is Yes, then they replace the drive inverter (motor control unit); if No, then the solution is to replace the main battery pack, but there is plenty to check before reaching that point. If i were ...

Re: Any tips on R&R the cabin air filter?

Remove the glovebox then you can see the filter and it's slot to slide into the plenum. Easy to access and change. The glovebox is held by tabs on each side--use your finger to press in one side tab at a time to release it, then let it fully open down and then you can pick it up off of the 'hinge' a...

Re: Battery Capacity

i would go ahead and charge up tonight--don't be sending her out to drive the first time with a low 'tank' . Those last 23 miles can go away fairly quickly when you first get an EV and cause needless anxiety. She may need some heat or defrost to clear the windshield, etc. You can do the range calibr...

Re: New weak spot - the gear selector misbehaving

Cables do stretch over time and it may need an adjustment.

In addition sliding electrical contacts get dirty over time and may need cleaning or replacement. There are actually two sets of contacts for each gear position--sort of a redundant system but each set has a different function.

Re: 12 Volt battery is failing, I'm looking for replacement

BMW K-bikes use a big 12V battery, nearly the size of the jellybean's.

So if using a bigger battery puts extra load on the pack, then does using a tiny one put less load?

If the 12V lead acid is 3 yrs old or more, then you have gotten your use out of it--it is old and weak and ready to retire...

Re: Illustrated Parts Breakdown

Howdy Joe,

Do you have the factory service manual on CD? There is a section that is focused on body work and frame measurements that may have diagrams of what you are looking for, although it is not a true parts manual--have yet to find that in the wild...

Re: exclamation point inside of car error light?

My bet is still on the 12V battery being too weak. There are tests for a lead-acid battery to determine it's condition, e.g. electrolyte specific gravity measurement, voltage sag under heavy load, etc. Just charging it up and measuring the resting voltage is not a valid test. But have them give you ...

Tesla S CAN buss cell data

The tesla guys have finally cracked the CAN buss for their cars and are starting to get huge piles of data including the 96 brick (74 cells in parallel) voltages and temperatures. i'm trying to parse some of it but not sure what tools to use to see 96 voltages at a time on a graph and then animate t...

Re: Battery cell failing at just 2900 km (1800 miles)

Make sure that it's a real LX from scantool and not a counterfeit scamtool being sold on ebay--there are some out there that 'look' like the LX but are using elm chip internal and won't work.
