Re: Tear down of a Hoverboard battery

i'm thinking that the little 6-pin control chips (U1..A) are the Fortune DW01 Lithium battery protection ic which has built-in protection limits for overcharge detection @4.250+/-.05 and overdischarge @2.40+/-0.1, plus overcurrent detection. The current limits are cleverly determined by the ON state...

Re: Tear down of a Hoverboard battery

They may seem to recover from an over-discharge event but it is only an illusion--don't be fooled, replace that pair of cells if you want to use the rest of the pack. Metal dendrites form when re-charging a depleted cell that can puncture the separator sheet causing a short circuit and lots of heat-...

Re: i-MiEV Will Not Start After DCQC Charging

My 2012 won't do L3 DCQC from the Eaton unit here in town, everytime i've tried it throws the circuit breaker in the Eaton unit and is a pia for other EVs to wait for the service crew to repair/reset it. i haven't tried any other. i believe the problem is in my car, most likely the DCQC contactors l...

Re: Tear down of a Hoverboard battery

i would be happy to help with the BMS board, but would need hi-res photos to identify the components. Better yet would be an actual board in my hands to trace the schematic.

Re: exclamation point inside of car error light?

Hey Ken, glad to hear the good news. Too bad it took so long but i guess nobody could be bothered to RTFM--read the freaking manual... Based upon my experience with this error in my car, i would bet a big pile of bitcoins that nothing is wrong with the inverter and the problem was likely the e...

Re: Battery Cell Voltage when Charging to 100%

...The car stops charge at 4.105 volts per cell, so there is still room to continue as far as the cells are concerned. i was curious about this very thing a couple of weeks ago and measured this with CanIon, and got the same result. So i feel much better about letting it go to full on it's own and ...

Re: Surface Rust on steering Linkage under dashboard

Not a problem, just the nature of untreated steel--any moisture in the warm moist air in your interior volume will condense on any cold metal surface. Surface treatments are available for metals to slow down or prevent rust, but that costs money and adds to the price of stuff. You can wipe the surfa...
