Re: Wife Drove Off While Plugged IN!

Hi Joe,
Thanks, I just replied to you. I've been busy working the last few days and am just catching up right now with emails and web notices.

Re: Wife Drove Off While Plugged IN!

After my wife got back home, I played around with the car a little. The charge port seems OK. I could plug in my Level 1 charger, and it would charge. I also took a look at exactly what the car would do with the charging cord plugged in, whether or not it has power. Even if you have a J1772 cord plu...

Wife Drove Off While Plugged IN!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! This morning, my wife took the iMiEV. Except that she didn't unplug it first. Nope. DID NOT unplug the car. Drove down the driveway anyways. At least she realized that something wasn't right and STOPPED, rather than just leaving completely. The upside is that the car looks OK. The J1...

Re: New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

There's nothing wrong with leaving the car plugged in. Once it's charged, the charger turns off, and it's not using power from the wall. In the winter, I want to make sure it's left in after charging so that I can use the Pre-Heat feature from the remote. Now if you are talking about something like ...

Re: New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

As a rule of thumb, I just plug-in when I'm done driving the car. It's simple. No messing around with timers, what may or may not happen, etc. I use the car every day, so I may as well have it charged. The other day, that was UNUSUAL that it wasn't charged, and that was very specifically for testing...

Re: New Owner - Ben got an iMiEV - Again!

The other day, I used the car for a trip. When I got back home, I didn't recharge it, as I was working on repairing a shot Chevy Volt charger that was given me. I was planning to fix the Volt Level 1 EVSE, and then test it by recharging the car. In the early evening, I got a call from a friend, who ...

Re: EVSE Upgrade

Aha! Interesting stuff! A big thanks to the photo posted by JSantala and the Instructables link from Joe. I forgot about the fact that the hand-shake signal is using an AC signal! When thinking about transformers, I'm usually thinking about big ones for the main power! I completely overlooked a litt...

Re: EVSE Upgrade

For example, my electric motorcycle's charger(s) can all take 120 OR 240V, but they all have a 120V "Edison" style 15A 120V plug on them. For my 1200 mile electric motorcycle trip, I built an adapter that let me have 3 240V connections, and 1 120V connection, all using standard female exte...

Re: EVSE Upgrade

Hi everyone. I have a question about the stock Level 1 charger, and I think this is the thread to ask it. In fact, I'm shocked that nobody else hasn't asked it yet. Can you plug the stock Level 1 charger straight into a 240V outlet? For the EVSE Upgrade, it gives you the option of increasing the the...

Re: Upgrading the heating system to bioethanol or Diesel fue

I enjoyed your videos, but couldn't help notice on your last video that you had a big crack in your garage floor. My ENTIRE GARAGE is nothing but big cracks. My next big project is to rebuild the garage. My house is smaller than average and has no basement (unlike ALL other houses in my area) and m...
