Re: Replaced My Pack!

Thx again Simon. I'm happy to let the car take its time to recalibrate, and see if any problems persist or pop up anew as we cycle the salvaged pack in daily use, but am tempted to let my dealer take a peek. We've built a bit of a relationship and traded some favors. The reported capacity is rising ...

Re: Replaced My Pack!

Thanks Simon that is a lot to review but of course I did a calibration charge with my very first charge and twice since. The pack is still reading 28.6 Ah, but DCFC Performance is rapidly improving I am currently at an EVGO station (BTC Power 50 kW dual cable unit) and it’s just like old times, char...

Re: Replaced My Pack!

Thank you Bjorn, There was no VIN lock, so no brain transplants required. I got a definite sign of trouble this morning. I had noticed that the first bar didn't last very long in driving, and last night it only charged up to 15 bars, 48 miles RR. The datastream says only 88% state of charge. S...

Replaced My Pack!

Well, I went and did it. Swapped a collision-salvaged 2012 pack with low miles for my original traction pack that was delivering 26.4 Ah after 105k miles. After setup, a good friend and I got it done within 4.5 hours in my driveway, without a lift or other special tools, and that included plenty of ...

Re: iMiEV as workhorse

As our cars age discussion about them begins to sound like a bunch of old codgers discussing their health problems, i.e. “Can’t get around like I used to.” or “My charger is pooped!” Well, I thought a reminder of just how useful these cars are was is in order before this whole forum goes into the cr...

Re: Battery Replacement - Lessons Learned

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Suzanne, but I’m in the same boat as you and have seen my range declining rapidly since the RR stopped showing 60 on a regular basis as we reached 100k miles. Now at 103k miles, 40 is a more typical starting range, though a 29 mile highway run at 60 mph pushed me d...

Re: Onboard Charger (OBC) Failure - P1AFE

Those smokey-looking wires are just the sleeve that was placed around them for extra insulation (keeping them extra warm). Both the sleeve and wire were still flexible in the two chargers I’ve opened up, but looked the same as this.

100k mile brake report

I got an alignment this week, and as expected, I had 0.8 degrees of negative camber on both sides, explaining the tire wear I’ve observed. They also reported -0.24 toe on the left rear and +0.24 toe on the right rear. I hadn’t noticed the car crabbing sideways and that can’t be adjusted out, plus no...

Re: MCU 20A 450VDC fuse investigation

Okay, this is enough evidence of mechanical failure for me to put a pre-emptive fuse replacement on the maintenance schedule. My original lasted 80k miles, but a friend's only made it 45k. What lower mileages have the OBC fuses blown at? I'm thinking of a 40k interval (so am already halfway there on...

Re: Car Now Charging! (was Car Not Charging)

Congratulations and very impressive! I'm sure glad I kept a failed OBC on hand, to attempt the now 'cheap and simple' repair documented in that video. This community has reduced the repair cost from over $4000 at a dealer to $400 from a junkyard, and now down to $20 worth of parts. 8-)
