Re: Car Now Charging! (was Car Not Charging)

Congratulations and very impressive! I'm sure glad I kept a failed OBC on hand, to attempt the now 'cheap and simple' repair documented in that video. This community has reduced the repair cost from over $4000 at a dealer to $400 from a junkyard, and now down to $20 worth of parts. 8-) Thanks, Jray...

Re: Car not charging

Charger Working! It was the right snubber capacitor and the 20 amp fuse exactly as kiev mentioned. My dad helped me out by soldering in a new one. Thanks to everyone who posted on this subject. It was a big help! There was a youtube video that was helpful too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63ZWosS...

Re: Car not charging

Thanks, Kiev. That was it! A blown 20 amp fuse in the MCU.

Now I have to look into the snubbers

Re: Car not charging

20A fuse blown in the Motor Control Unit; snubber caps blown in the On-Board Chargger. i have the same problem, trying to come up with a easy solder solution for the caps. I was just reading about the 20 amp fuse. Ok I'll check that and look into the snubber caps. Btw: I found a 151R battery at Wal...

Car Now Charging! (was Car Not Charging)

I guess it's my turn for the charger to not work. When I plug the evse in, I do not get the battery fan cycling on like I normally get and I have a yellow error light on the dash of a little car and exclamation sign. Then I tried my OB2 scanner and that doesn't work. The scanner tries to link and af...

Re: Supplemental cooling for the charger.

It also has been confirmed here that level 1 charging generates less heat. Especially if you use the supplied OEM 2012 Panasonic EVSE which only does 8 amps, 960 watts. That's how I've been recharging 95% of the time for the past year because of all the heat related failures we've been seeing here....

Re: Got Solar!

Hope this scheme continues working for you and I trust you have some automatic controls for not overheating the water that comes from the collectors (uncontrolled and at a very low flowrate my pool solar collectors are great at generating steam on a summer afternoon). I have no overheat protection ...

Re: Got Solar!

ed5000, I think it's a great energy-saving idea to use the solar collectors and water heater tank as a pre-heater with storage! The tankless using only 1kW is a HUGE consumption reduction. Hope this scheme continues working for you and I trust you have some automatic controls for not overheating th...

Re: Got Solar!

ed5000, your tankless water heater is drawing 112.5 amps at 240vac?? :o Wow! Makes our car charging currents seem puny. Just how big is the circuit breaker for this thing? Good that you relocated the water heater location. When I designed my house, I located my (electric) water heater centrally wit...
