Re: how to limit dcqc rate

Thanks for your comments PV1. So each bar does not represent 1 kwh then ? I've always thought that was the reason behind the 16 bars full scale.

Re: Care and Feeding of the OBC/dc-dc

I too very much appreciate this thread. Some thoughts: We had noticed early on that the 12v aux batt gets drained if we lock the i using the fob button; so I've gotten into the habit of only to lock with the button on the door. The other source of drainage is the ODLink brick for Canion, so I only p...

Re: Power the house with MiEV battery?

I have a set up with an external 12v 4kwh LiFe external pack to drive a 2000w dcac inverter. I can jumper the iMiev (or a Volt/Bolt) 12v to add charge to the external pack. But a recent test to power a 2 hoses portable ac/heater heatpump drew 120A on the jumper cable. Even a 6awg cable was getting w...

Re: how to limit dcqc rate

I may be a bit panaroid about this, as the duration above 40kw only lasts a few minutes. There is a 25kw station and I've used it. if I can trick the BMS to think the SOC is around 50%, then the charge rate is limited to ~20kw. I am afraid it involves hacking the CAN bus messages. But I think I need...

how to limit dcqc rate

so I am finding myself doing dcqc almost exclusively this winter for a number of reasons: paranoided about on-board-charger failing, cooler weather, a free station 1-mile from home, and another practically free ($0.06/kwh) on the way home. Because my house is at 2200-ft elevation, with a 50-mile rou...

Re: i-MiEV Cuts Out After Hitting Bump

A while ago, my motorcycle died right after hitting a pothole. Apparently the shock loosen something in the 12v battery and sorted it out thus overloaded the generator/alternator. I would also check the 12v health.

Re: i-Miev Battery Cell Testing

I think you are referring to charge shuffling. I am not sure if it's possible for deeply out of balanced cell, and if it does, it may take a really long time. Imagine a worse case scenario where all cells are around 80% SOC, and the one newly swapped cell is at 10%. The available range would also si...

Re: i-Miev Battery Cell Testing

The challenge is how to balance the cells with respect to each other, since they are all in series ? When I rebuilt the Prius' pack, I had to connect all the modules in parallel for a couple of days while exercising slow up/down charging. At least with the Prius pack being NiMh, one can top balance ...

Re: Annual inspection and "required" maintainence?

hello everyone, I finally get around to bring my 2014 with 21Kmiles in for the airbag recall. The dealer insisted that I need to do the Maintenance (~$4xx) in order to keep the warranty. I thought that's a bit steep; and the main items listed in the Maintenance schedule are high voltage cabling insp...

Re: Need a longer range ev

I would try to find out if there is any near future plan for DCFC installation along your route, as well as to consider your time frame. I don't know how near retirement you are, but your driving need would change. We have an 2014 iMiev, '16 Volt, and a '17 Bolt; totally now over 100K electric miles...
