Re: 12V battery cumulative drain higher then overall charging.

Thanks for the warning. I was concerned about over charging too, and the cheapy solar charger indeed does not have a controller, just a blocking diode. I've kept an eye on the voltage with a cigarette socket volt read-out, the read-out is never above 12.4 v in ACC, then promptly goes to 14.xx in Rea...

Re: 12V battery cumulative drain higher then overall charging.

Since my iMiev is mostly sitting around these due to the shelter-in-place, I have a solar battery maintenance panel on the dash and connected to the 12v . It's been left in place 24/7, even while driving on occasion. https://www.harborfreight.com/15-watt-solar-battery-charger-62449.html?cid=paid_goo...

Re: 12v Battery - All You Ever Wanted To Know

We discovered the "quirk" early on, that the 12v gets drained if locked by the fob. Since then, I have into the habit of locking by pushing the lock button on the door on the way out, making sure key is in hand. Replaced the 12v with a sealed 12v from Harbor Freight a year ago, seems to be...

Re: using a Lev50 pack for solar

Solar (PV) inverters that are designed for 240 VAC grid tie operation can be found quite cheaply as used or salvage, and are designed for up to 420 VDC input. I expect it would survive the relatively unlimited ampacity of a battery pack in the circuit due to their ability to sustain a shutdown and ...

has any one attempted to external control start/stop charging with a timer by triggering the J17xx charge plug button switch ?

Re: using a Lev50 pack for solar

I've been thinking about this as well, so far: Charging: Use level 2 at 3kw AC via the regular AC & vehicle charger setup; once the PV inverter is turning on, either via the grid or an islanded-subgrid. This way, the pack is maintained by the vehicle build-in BMS. Dis-charge: the meager 700w-100...

Re: Troubleshooting and repair for On-board Charger (OBC), DC-DC Converter

"The 20A fuse in the OBC has never been found to blow even though it is in the same current path as the MCU fuse? "

How/where is the OBC 20A fuse mounted ? you had hypothesized previously that the MCU 20A may suffered from mechanical vibration. I don't know where the OBC 20A fuse is.

Re: Fuel gauge vs tortoise

I recall a post by ikiev, may be in the OBC trouble-shooting thread, with a reference to a user-manual page, saying that it's not recommended to disconnect the aux for over a month. If so, the computer has to be re-learn, something about the pack status.
